Steven Donald Summers, affectionately known as Steve to his friends and family, was a beacon of joy and resilience throughout his life. Born on August 16, 1954, in Wichita, Kansas, to proud parents Donald Arthur Summers and Lois M. Stephens Summers, Steve's journey began with a loving family that would soon grow to include his sister, Marilyn, in 1958, and his brother, Larry, in 1960. The Summers family eventually settled in Owasso, Oklahoma, where Steve's early education began. They later moved to Verdigris for his middle school years, culminating in his graduation from Claremore High School in 1973.
Steve's thirst for knowledge and adventure led him to Rogers State University and the Spartan School of Aeronautics. His dedication to service matched his academic pursuits, as he proudly served in the United States Air Force. It was during this time that Steve met his beloved wife and welcomed his cherished daughter, Stephanie. His role as a grandfather to Alexis and Cooper was one he embraced with all the love in his heart.
In 1980, Steve faced a life-altering challenge when he lost his left leg. Undeterred, he channeled his experience into a new passion, learning to create prosthetics. His journey took him to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he worked for Ottobock, a global leader in prosthetics and orthotics. Not only did he contribute his skills, but he also served as a model for the company. Despite his success, the call of home was strong, and Steve returned to Oklahoma, where he found joy working as a farmhand on his family's horse ranch.
Steve's zest for life was evident in his hobbies. An avid treasure hunter, he always seemed to find something special to add to his collection. He was a master of games, particularly backgammon, which he could play for hours on end. His sense of humor was legendary, especially when it came to his amputated leg, which he used to entertain and amaze children with creative antics.
A man of deep faith, Steve was a devoted member of the Claremore Church of the Nazarene. His relationship with Jesus Christ was a cornerstone of his life, and he lived his faith every day, spreading love and kindness wherever he went.
Steve's legacy is carried on by his loving mother, Lois Summers; his sister, Marilyn Summers Pritchard (Robert); his brother, Larry Summers (Kathy); and his adoring nieces and nephews, Nick, Channing, Jason, Ashley, Ryan, Brooke, Aaron, Kyle, Wesley, Kyle, Ashley, and Madison. His grand nieces and nephews, Alissa, Carlie, Autumn, Ellie, Emery, Eva, Gunner, Jayley, Emma, Dylan, Oakly, Lela, and Cutter, will also cherish the memories of their fun-loving uncle.
Steven Donald Summers will be remembered as a loving, faith-filled, and funny man who faced life's challenges with courage and grace. His laughter, warmth, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
